Eastern Screech-owl #16-0063 update

During the first two weeks of August, the rehabilitation staff offered live mice to Eastern Screech-owl #16-0063 for live-prey testing. The owl passed three nights in a row — normally, this would be considered successful, but because the owl had eye injuries, the bird needs to pass mouse school five nights in a row rather than three.

By the second week of August, the owl successfully hunted live mice for five nights in a row, and the rehabilitation staff began to assess his releasability.
